One of our favorite things to do is ride around our neighborhood with the top down and look at houses. We love our little apartment but we are always dreaming and looking. I always did that with my family growing up. Three girls in the backseat riding and reading and looking out windows. Every block has a different feeling…yesterday we saw a little girl riding her bike down the street with her feet up on the handlebars. I thought she was the coolest. For a minute I remembered what it was like to spend every moment practicing those sorts of things outside until dinnertime.

Today we bought plane tickets to North Carolina for Christmas! Seems so far away but it won't be long before we are there, baking and visiting.

This weekend we are going to see two friends, bandmates, perform a backyard concert. Instructions are to bring blankets and food and drinks. I'm excited for it.

I think I will get in the water next time I'm at the beach. I'll walk in up to my knees and almost change my mind and then a swell will come and I will go for it. Maybe my body will get numb and hate me for doing it until a half hour later when my fingers are raisins and I'm finally used to it. I just want to know what it's like out there in our cold ocean. The only people not wearing wet suits are kids. They don't seem to mind the cold at all.

Jeff and I met my family at my grandparent's beach house last week. We ate delicious granddaddy-prepared-breakfasts and multiple watermelons. We played beach volleyball and swam in the canal. We danced in the dark and played a ridiculous amount of four-square. I want to live like that all the time. I can't wait to go back.

Also squeezed into our trip: eastern nc bbq with my dad's family in the town I grew up in; lunch at a favorite pizza place; catching up with a sweet, old family friend, and a trip to my grandma's house where we spied on newborn kittens and ate her good cookin'.

two things

Old Chloé Family 32

One: We're leaving for my family's beach house tomorrow! I can't wait to see everyone's faces and be near water and eat food prepared by someone else's loving hands.

Two: Lately, we've been staying up til the middle of the night talking, making homemade spaghetti after church while pretending it's fall, watching lots of movies on the floor of our cozy apartment, and forgetting to take pictures of any of it, all with friends.

my birthday

We walked to Papillote, one of my favorite little places in Savannah, for dinner. It's like a fancy French to-go restaurant but they have a few tables if you want to eat inside. We ate cheese and baguettes, sipped wine, and talked about traveling. I also ate lots of ice cream. And took a bubble bath.

We finished it all off with a very relaxing rest of the weekend. Lots of cleaning, some furniture rearranging, watching movies, and staying up with new friends until 4am.

I love my life.

This past weekend might have been the best one of my life.

A man gave me a free bike!! That happens to be the perfect size for me. And can be fixed up to be real cute but is perfectly rideable as is (I just got back from the most glorious ride around the park). I can't get over how it all magically worked out....just in time for my birthday!

We also added a new member to our kitchen family: a much needed cart/table from craigslist (originally from Potter Barn). It fits in our new kitchen and is the perfect place for chopping up lots of veggies.

Aside from that, the weekend was full of sleeping and walking. Walking to the store -especially around dusk- is so relaxing. And if it's hot out I just walk through the fountains.

P.S. Can't forget about HP! We went on a date to the theater to see Harry Potter. Smuggled in candy and soda like usual. xo

july

July

we are both a very rosy shade of pink & full of corn on the cob and watermelon.

a very good way to start off july.

You know when you spend the day at the beach
(eating, swimming, reading, swimming, napping, swimming, etc.)
and suddenly you realize the beach is nearly empty?
That is my favorite time to be at the beach.
Around 7pm, I can try to surf or skimboard without worrying about
running into people or making a fool of myself in front of a crowd.
The beach belongs to me and whoever is with me.
That is one of the best feelings in the world.

*My dad always said that this time of day is feeding time for the sharks.
Maybe that made it more fun/exciting to play in the water?

Between watching Whale Rider and The Endless Summer, eating coconut frozen yogurt, and spending every spare minute reading*, my love for summer is resurfacing. Thosepictures of Demetria in Greece have contributed as well. I want to go swimming!!!

We are picking up the keys to our new apartment tomorrow! tomorrow! tomorrow! But we'll be slowly moving everything for a couple weeks. I may have already tried talking Jeff into camping out in the half empty new place.

I tried out a new pizza dough recipe last night. It was so easy and quick. Recipe. Picture.

* I finished reading The History of Love (loved it so much I didn't understand why it was ending when I got to the last page.) and started reading Crossing to Safety.

Jeff and I had a long weekend of walking downtown, making delicious dinners and breakfasts, car dancing (a reoccurring event...not just from the weekend), discovering tybee island, people watching, feasting on avocado burgers, a star wars marathon, and being very lazy around the apartment. It was probably my favorite weekend of being a married lady so far.
Pictures from Saturday on Tybee Island.
